The 1920's
Skiing on the North Shore Mountains dates back to the 1920's when enthusiasts of the sport travelled by boat across Burrard Inlet, then hiked with their equipment and supplies up to log cabins, many of which can still be found on Hollyburn Mountain. Hollyburn Lodge, which houses the cozy cafeteria and warming area, is located in the heart of the Cross Country ski area. This facility was constructed in the early years and remains as a remarkable reminder of our mountain’s skiing heritage.
1970's
Present day skiers and snowboarders enjoy the luxury of driving to Cypress Mountain on a well maintained three lane highway which was constructed in the mid 1970’s. Below is a photo of the Lion's Gate Bridge construction
1984 - Cypress Bowl Recreations was born
The Provincial Parks Branch operated both ski areas for several years with limited success, and in 1984 the ski facilities were offered for sale by tender. Cypress Bowl Recreations submitted the successful bid and began operating the ski facilities in November 1984.
FEBRUARY 2001, CYPRESS WAS PURCHASED BY BOYNE RESORTS
A family owned Recreation Company purchases Cypress Mountain. Boyne's other ski area interests include:

The Summit at Snoqualmie, Washington
Brighton Ski Resort, Utah
Big Sky Resort, Montana
Sugarloaf, Maine
Loon Mountain, New Hampshire
Sunday River, Maine
Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands, Michigan.
2002 - Vancouver wins the bid to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games,
Cypress Mountain was made the Official Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
May 2006 CNL aCquires assets of Cypress
In May 2006, CNL Income Properties acquired the assets of Cypress and is leasing assets back to Cypress and Boyne under a long-term lease arrangement. This acquisition gives CNL the opportunity to expand its relationship with Boyne who is one of North America’s leading four season resort operators (www.boyneresorts.com)
Vancouver 2010 olympic winter games
In February 2010, Cypress Mountain hosted the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard events for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and saw the first Gold Medal won on home snow by Alexander Bilodeau (men’s moguls) followed by 5 other medal wins on Cypress Mountain. Many of our ski & snowboard runs were renamed after these Olympic athletes.
APRIL 2010
CNL Properties sells their Cypress Mountain assets to a Och-Ziff Capital Management Group LLC known as Ski Resort Holdings LLC, finalizing a deal, 2 years in the making. Boyne Resorts continues to operate Cypress Mountain under a sub-lease agreement.
MAY 2018
Boyne Resorts reacquires Cypress Mountain and all of its assets back.
JULY 2021
Cypress Mountain opens for summer activities with launch of the Eagle Coaster. The Eagle Coaster is gravity-fed thrill ride, from the top of Eagle Express Quad Chair, down Black Mountain, in the Downhill Base Area. Riders can control their own speed by using the brake and can safely reach thrilling speeds of up to 40 km per hour winding down the 1700 meter track with 279 meters of vertical drop.
Cypress Mountain operations and ski facilities provide activity and enjoyment to hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The growth we have experienced is a tribute to Boyne Resorts, the dedicated team members of past seasons and the pioneers of North Shore skiing who were instrumental in initiating the development of the area.
